The rescue operating system

Run the rescue, not the spreadsheet.

Homie is the software a dog rescue runs on: the dog board, intake, medical, fosters, applications, comms, donations. It sits on top of ShelterLuv or PetPoint instead of replacing them, and it hands the busywork to the machine.

Article · the problem

Rescue runs on heroics. The tools make it harder.

A coordinator runs dozens to hundreds of dogs and foster households across texts, DMs, spreadsheets, email and memory. No triage layer. No loop-closing. The same ten questions answered ten times a day. We wrote down seven bottlenecks. Homie has a part for each.

On the ground

What Homie does about it

1

Visibility. Dogs sit unseen when intake spikes. Marketing falls on the busiest person in the building.

Every dog gets a public page. Fosters’ phones become the content engine. The flywheel, p.7.

2

Burnout. Coordination lives in DMs and memory. Nothing closes the loop.

Mission Control: the board, 45 automation recipes, a staff workspace beside the work, an AI help desk.

3

Double entry. You already use ShelterLuv or PetPoint. Tools that demand migration die.

Import from what you have, export your Petfinder feed. Homie connects, it doesn’t replace.

4

Trust. Foster vetting is slow, subjective, and doesn’t travel between rescues.

Foster credentials and a rescue-confirmed reliability ledger that follow the person.

5

Sourcing. Shelter volunteers know things nobody else knows. It dies in private texts.

Volunteers draft passports in the kennel aisle; they land in your Sourcing feed. Pending pull, p.4.

6

Advocacy. People who love one specific dog have nowhere to put it.

Anyone can post about a dog and link it. Comment-to-DM turns a like into a pledge.

7

Money. Donation tools take a cut, or make you say so.

100% of every base gift reaches you. Receipts come from the 501(c)(3). Money, p.8.

“The tough times won’t be forever. Finding the dog a home is the outcome everyone wants. We’re all on the same team.”

Article · Mission Control

Every dog, every stage, one glance.

The Kanban dog board is the signature screen. Six journey stages, one card per dog, urgency badges only when true. It looks like a drag board but it isn’t one: a mis-drag can fire an adoption email. So a stage change goes dropdown → confirm → an undo window that’s real on the server → a pending badge everyone on the team can see. Try it below.
